About Kids Escaping Drugs

 History

Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services, Inc. (ADDS) was founded in 1977 to operate inpatient residential and outpatient treatment programs for persons addicted to drugs and/or alcohol.

Ten years later, the Alcohol and Drug Dependency Services Foundation, (ADDSF) commonly known as the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign, was created with the sole purpose of raising funds for the construction and support of adolescent treatment facilities.

Mission: Raise, manage and distribute funds for the development and support of facilities, education and prevention programs for adolescents and their families in Western New York suffering from alcohol and drug dependency/addiction.

The foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors and pursues charitable gifts from foundations, individuals, and corporations. The need for these facilities has been strongly supported by local and state lawmakers.

The Campus consists of three buildings that house up to 62 chemically-dependent youths ages 12 to 21. Renaissance House is a 30 bed intensive treatment facility for boys, Stepping Stones is a 16 bed girls' residence which combines both inpatient and aftercare programs while Promise House is a 16 bed aftercare residence for boys. The Campaign staff and a dedicated group of volunteers host events that range from golf tournaments and ski races to appearances at summer fairs and festivals to raise funding for the Campus. Year round activities culminate in the spring with the annual Kids Escaping Drugs Telethon on WGRZ-TV Channel 2 On Your Side, an original partner and continuing sponsor of the Campaign.

In addition to the awareness provided by the annual telethon and events, the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign has been offering prevention and outreach to the WNY community since 1996. The Peer Awareness Program allows Renaissance Campus clients and alumni to lead frank discussions with 6th through 12th graders in local schools and youth groups. To date, over 20 school districts have participated in the free program and more importantly, more than 25,000 students have heard first-hand accounts of the dangers and consequences of drug and alcohol use.  To request a panel visit at your school, click here.
