KED & YOU

What is the SFC? What do they do?
The SFC is a group of people who all have the same goal, to reduce substance use in West Seneca and Orchard Park. We meet and work on projects to achieve this goal. Everyone is from a different sector of the community, so we collectively have many perspectives and connections.
Why are community partnerships so important in reducing youth substance use? It only makes sense that the more hands and minds we get together, the better we can help our community.
The SFC conducts a survey every 2 years for the West Seneca and Orchard Park communities, what result surprised you the most?
In our community of minors who consume alcohol, the majority of them get it at home with permission from their parents. It shows the rumor “it's safer at home than outside” is very prevalent in the area.
How does data help guide the coalition’s work?
Data drives most decisions we make. We use data to develop our annual action plan, create new media campaigns, and recruit new coalition members.
What is the SFC's next event?
We have a free film, Screenagers: Under the Influence, on April 28th 6:30-8 at Hilbert College.
What’s one moment at SFC/KED that reminded you why this mission matters?
When random people come up and say thank you just for being there. It shows that just showing can be the difference for some people.
