What is Carfentanil?

Updated: Mar 8

Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid that is chemically related to fentanyl but is much more potent. It is used as a tranquilizing agent for large animals, particularly elephants. Carfentanil is considered to be one of the most potent opioids, with a potency estimated to be 10,000 times that of morphine and about 100 times that of fentanyl.

Due to its extreme potency, Carfentanil is not intended for human use and can be extremely dangerous. It has been associated with cases of accidental overdose and poses significant risks to public health. Law enforcement and healthcare professionals are concerned about its potential misuse and illicit production.

It's important to note that Carfentanil is a controlled substance, and its use or distribution outside of approved veterinary and medical contexts is illegal. Misuse of Carfentanil can lead to severe health consequences, including overdose and death. If you have specific concerns or questions, it is advisable to consult with healthcare professionals or authorities in your region.
