It can be difficult to tell if your child is using drugs, but there are some signs that you can look out for:

  • Changes in behavior: Your child may exhibit changes in behavior, such as becoming more withdrawn or secretive, showing a lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities, or exhibiting mood swings.

  • Physical symptoms: Drug use can cause physical symptoms such as bloodshot eyes, a persistent cough, rapid weight loss or gain, or tremors.

  • Changes in appearance: Your child may suddenly become less concerned about their personal appearance, grooming, or hygiene.

  • Changes in friends and social circles: Your child may start hanging out with a new group of friends or exhibiting a sudden disinterest in spending time with old friends or family.

  • Academic or work performance changes: Your child may suddenly exhibit a drop in academic or work performance, tardiness or absenteeism, or frequent unexplained absences.

It's important to note that these signs could also be caused by other issues or life events and may not necessarily be indicative of drug use. Many of the above changes can just be a part of being a teenager. If you suspect your child may be using drugs, it's important to have an open and honest conversation with them and seek professional help. KED can provide guidance and support for both you and your child. Read more about our early interventions HERE.
