KED & YOU

You've been at KED the longest, what changes have you seen in the WNY community?
The WNY community remains passionate about helping kids. There have been so many changes to the landscape of substance use, both at a county, state, and federal level, but WNY remains committed to helping kids and families. The one thing that has not changed is the mission of KED and the continued support of the WNY community.
What is your vision for the future of KED in the next 3–5 years?
My vision for KED is to continue to be able to provide our services free of charge, but to a larger audience. To grow we will need to form new community partnerships both in WNY, and throughout the state.
What makes KED unique compared to other organizations serving youth and families?
We are unique because we are not prevention. We can make our own curriculum and design it to meet the specific needs of those we are working with. We are unique because we do not charge for our services. The most unique thing about KED is the incredible passion of everyone who works here, is on our Board, and partners with KED. I know every Executive Director says their staff is passionate, but at KED, we take it to a whole other level!
What’s one moment at KED that reminded you why this mission matters?
There have been so many moments that remind me of our mission and why we do what we do. Our Rise for Recovery Walk this past fall, where we came together to remember those we have lost to addiction and celebrate those in recovery, has to be the most powerful reminder of the mission of KED. Our mission is to help the community live a life free from addiction, and when the community comes together like it does for our walk, it makes me proud to be a small part of that mission!
Why is community partnership so important to KED’s success?
KED is a small not for profit, so community partnerships help us strengthen what we do, and allow us to reach more people in the WNY community. No program can survive without strong partnerships, and KED is no exception to this. We have strong partnerships in both the public and private sector, and I am forever grateful for the tremendous support we receive.
