KED & YOU
Share your favorite moment from recent programming:
One recent thing that happened was that I was teaching a group of youth what resiliency is. After each session I ask at the end what the word of the day was. Almost every kid shouted at once, resiliency. It was amazing!
Why is this work especially important in our community?
Being able to teach youth the key skills needed to make healthy decisions is so important for their development.
How can substance use be prevented from an early age?
Young kids should be taught about boundaries, resiliency, and how to speak out for themselves before they reach the age were talking about drugs is appropriate. We actually have a program that does just that, called Back2Basics.
What’s one thing you wish every parent knew about teen substance use?
Teens that experiment with substances aren’t “bad kids” they're going through something a lot of the time and need our support.
What’s one moment at KED that has stuck with you?
My very first Rise for Recovery Walk. I will never forget seeing all the families come together as one.
What small change can make a big difference in a young person’s life?
Hearing them, listening to what they have to say. Not listening to respond but actually listening.
ABOUT YOU
What’s one self-care habit that helps you recharge?
Doing diamond paintings!
What helps you prepare or get ready for a presentation?
Going over the presentation in my head before I leave.
